It’s great to have you here with us today — thanks for attending.
Mira: Hello everyone.
Nebo: Let’s start!
Could you please introduce yourselves and explain your role within KELVPN?
Constantin: I come from southlands of Russia. Taken an MS degree in Computer Science, I was into R&D and software development in engineering branches, s.a UAV systems, numerical modelling and applied maths. The persisting institutional crisis and growing discredit of banking sector in my local area, in contrast to the dramatic advance of cryptoindustry and De-Fi worldwide manifestation, engaged me into the crypto field. At 2018 I came into Demlabs and then science 2019 I worked upon basis of the KelVPN service as CTO.
Mira: I have been in the IT industry for over 16 years, but I am a professional psychologist and worked in the industry at the same time. Now I am the CEO of KelVPN project.
Nebo: Very interesting. Is Demlabs, the parent company of KELVPN?
Constantin: Yes, it is. Right now we’re independent company.
Nebo: I see. Could you briefly explain what is KELVPN?
Constantin: KELVPN is kind of d-VPN (decentralized VPN) with high security level, good performance and based on Cellframe blockchain. Right now its working based on testnet but the service itself is ready in public production.
Nebo: Got it. Do you have competitors at the moment building something similar?
Constantin: We compete with centralized VPN services that's vulnerable for private data leaks by design. You can search for the news about such leaks and founds that the biggest VPN brands had them. That's terrible, people trust their safety and they don’t keep ever their credit cards numbers in secret, associated with email.
We did the system that's does such leaks impossible, because there is no signal place where such data could be picked up.
About similar products — there are products that's looking like KELVPN but all they has differences. So I can’t say that there is similar competitor’s product. All are different.
Nebo: Understood. + I think the market for VPN’s is huge so there’s room for others!
Constantin: yes, and it grows.
Nebo: What’s the utility of the token?
Will it be the only “currency” to purchase the VPN?
Constantin: Not only to purchase VPN. It also will be used for staking. Staking required if you want to provide VPN service and earn on this. You can stake and provide. Or delegate your stake to smbd who want to provide the service.
Also this token could be used for savings, as any crypto currency, for trading on Cellframe Core Network, for governance, PoS based emission. Possible other usecases.
Nebo: Nice. What can we expect from KELVPN in the near future? What are your plans?
Constantin: We want to release some software updates, then start to test stake delegation in our testnet. Next we want to release iOS version and update MacOS version a lot.
Next few months should be encryption updates, possible multi-hop mode, then at summer is planned cellchain auction. Thats the short brief.
Nebo: Sounds solid and very busy. hehe
Is TGE around the corner?
Constantin: Planned for 16th. IDO at 12th April.
Nebo: Awesome, feels like the best is yet to come! I’m sure the community has a lot of questions to ask so let’s have them!
Member 1: Node infrastructure is expensive as it needs higher bandwidth usage. Added to that man hours required. Overall cost wise is your solution comparable to traditional VPN providers?
Constantin: Our solution don’t require high bandwidth. We expect that ever mobile phone could be used as VPN node. Our software is high optimized with extra low power usage.
Member 2: Why is KelVPN the first deanon-proof VPN? What does KelVPN do that other dVPNs like Sentinel, Orchid, Mysterium etc don’t?
Constantin: It does selection between usability and security — you don’t need $KEL token to start to use KELVPN — you can pay ever with credit card (not for all countries for now). This mechanism called CDB — Central Database that does some small amount of centralization but gives lot of usability. If you’re good enough just with traffic redirected out of your country — that's your choice.
If its not enough you can purchase $KEL, connect wallet with VPN client (not ready for current moment ) and use it directly without CDB.
All this you do for payment. If you want free usage you can bring up node and find smbd who delegate stake to you. Or purchase the stake and use it by your own and share the service. So we differ from free-for-usage d-VPN. KelVPN sharing is optional and require some staking.
We believe that is all gives better balance between security, usability and performance.
Member 3: There are some blockchain-based VPN initiatives like Powerkee, SpiderDAO VPN. What are they missing to hit the target?
And will you focus on manufacturing your own deanon-proof VPN powered and quantum-safe hardware products like MODEMS? Do you have such plans?
Constantin: Yes, we have such prototypes. Unfortunately can’t say exactly when they will be released.
Member 4: how are you planning for such a big power (vpns) needed for decentralised VPNs? do you have sufficient resources to execute this whole plan in such a Big manner?
Constantin: Its community-driven thing. As more people we’ll have as more VPN nodes brings up their services. KelVPN node is based on Cellframe node, its ultra fast and don’t require big powers. 100 Mbps could be processed by one modern Intel CPU 2Ghz (or ARM on 1.6Ghz) with about 10% of usage.
Member 5: what will you do to make your project stable and provide the highest return for investors in the long term? What is the real strength of this project?
Constantin: Hard work, extremally focused on code’s quality and performance. Good software with users-friendly UI, low latency servers with guaranteed bandwidth — everything that makes service better we put in list.
